Melinda (Mindy) Hohman is Professor at the School of Social Work, San Diego State University, San Diego, where she has taught since 1995. Dr. Hohman teaches courses in substance abuse treatment, research, Motivational Interviewing, and social work practice. She also coordinates the undergraduate social work program. Dr. Hohman s research interests include substance abuse assessment and treatment services, driving under the influence, and the overlap of substance abuse treatment and Child Welfare services. She also served as a program evaluator on two SAMHSA-funded projects in substance abuse treatment settings and has been involved in other evaluation projects.

She has been a trainer in Motivational Interviewing since 1999, training community social workers, Child Welfare workers, probation officers, and addiction counselors across California. From 2007-2009 she was the Project Director of Motivational Interviewing training for over 2000 employees of the California Division of Juvenile Justice (Cal-METRO Project) which was conducted through the Center on Criminality, Addiction Research Training and Application, Department of Psychiatry, UC-San Diego.

Mindy is interested in Motivational Interviewing trainings and working with agencies to implement Motivational Interviewing skills systematically. She is also interested in program development and evaluation.
